    Buy Healthy, Buy Local

    Buy healthy, buy local

The topics of healthy eating and keeping fit have a regular slot in most local, national and online publications, especially true since the rates of obesity soared in the UK amongst both adults and children and so they are dominant topics in many people’s lives. The basic principle of losing weight and getting fit is to eat less and do more and if you don’t need to lose weight but instead you want to get fit and maintain the weight you are at, the best thing to do is buy healthy food and take regular exercise. It is not all about eating salad leaves and cabbage soup and staying away from bread and sweet things, instead it is about eating a balanced diet rich in protein, carbohydrates, good fats, vitamins and minerals and steering clear of saturated fats and foods that are high in salt and sugars.

There are plenty of healthy recipes to choose from online, recipes for vegetarians, meat eaters, adventurous cooks and those who have very little time to put meals together from scratch due to busy working and social lives and they can all be made using seasonal, fresh, British produce so you can buy healthy and buy local. Your local supermarket should stock a good range of local and healthy food because it is in demand these days, it is an easy way for supermarkets and food stores to make money and support local farmers who in turn will support them. The process of producing and selling healthy food is circular, in other words without the retailers farmers would struggle to make a living from what they produce and without any produce to sell retailers would make no money and either have to branch out into other areas or close down.

Consumers play a vital part in which businesses survive and which don’t and if we all chose to buy food grown or produced abroad it wouldn’t be long before British farmers and growers would be out of a job and the UK economy would be looking to strengthen its other areas of income and industry to compensate. Back to being healthy though, when you buy locally, local produce from your local supermarket, you should be buying seasonal vegetables and fruit which is grown naturally and is therefore full of flavour and ready to eat, unlike when you buy out of season fruit from abroad which can be unripe to the touch but rotten in the middle because it is picked too soon in order to ship.

For all your healthy food needs visit your local supermarket and you’ll not only be doing the right thing for your body but also for your community.
