Supplementation Is Important In Todays Age
By Luke Rennier | May 30, 2009
Out of the entire population, a lot of us supplement, but what are the benefits of supplementing and why do we do it? The health world has come out many times and publicised how great various vitamins and minerals are, such as the benefits of Vitamin C, and such medical reports and good press is the main reason we then start to invest our cold hard earned cash in some supplements to give ourself a great sense of well being.
The underlying truth is that the public tends to take supplements because our diets tend to be poor and our diets tend to be consisted of a lot of sugar type foods and processed foods which of course lose a lot of their natural benefit such as vitamins and minerals etc.
Doctors and health professionals have for many years have been promoting the effects of consuming lots of fruits and vegetables, however it still seems that some people are reluctant to increase their natural fruit and vegetable intake.
The good news is, that the vast majority of us on the planet consume meat, and as we consume meat we do get some valuable content in the form of vitamins and in particular iron. Iron is essential for general well being, so if you eat a lot of meat, then chances are that you have more then enough iron circulating around your body to take care of you.
The bad news is present for vegetarians as unfortunately without meat the body is not getting as many nutrients as it needs.
It also seems that we are getting more and more lazy other time and this contributes to a poor diet. Have you ever seen truck drivers with huge stomachs and computer programmers that are also huge? The main reason we have this stereotype is purely because a lot of these people in these professions d do not get time to eat well and tend to turn towards fatty food or heavily processed food which in its nature tends to be a lot more convenient.
Reading this article, you may think there is nothing you can do, that is up to fate with regards to what happens next. Fortunately it is not. All you need to do is listen carefully to your body. All of us in our life have had cravings of some sort. These cravings are our bodies way of telling us what foods we want. Have you ever craved a chocolate bar before when you do not normally eat chocolate? This is your bodies way of telling you it needs some simple sugar. Be careful though as listening to your body is an art, do not get confused with listening to your body and ‘thinking’ you are listening to your body and eating for the sake of it.
If you start to feel lethargic, or keep catching colds or just feel unwell etc, that is when you should turn to supplementation. Supplementation can also be an answer for prevention too…. If you wish to stop catching colds etc, then start supplementing now.
